The EyesOn Design Lifetime Design Achievement Award is presented annually to a person who has made an outstanding impact on the field of automotive design. The Award is determined by its previous recipients, who are other design luminaries.
The Lifetime Design Achievement Award is celebrated at the Vision Honored gala, which kicks off the EyesOn Design weekend of events that culminates with the annual car show in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan: EyesOn Design at Ford House.
EyesOn Design has announced that Professor Gordon Murray CBE will be the recipient of the 2024 EyesOn Design Lifetime Design Achievement Award.
The announcement was made by Tim McGrane, CEO of M1 Concourse and Grand Marshal of EyesOn Design at Ford House 2024.
The 2024 commemorative poster for the 37th annual car show was unveiled as part of the announcement. Painted by artist Nicolas Rousselet, the subject of the artwork is Prof Murray's McLaren F1, widely lauded as the finest driving machine built for the public road, and possibly the fastest production road car the world will ever see.
Having been fully immersed for decades in both automotive design and engineering, the choice of Murray for the Lifetime Design Achievement Award is particularly unique, as the recipient is selected strictly by previous winners of the award, a group comprised mostly of designers.
Responding from his home in the UK, Prof Murray said "What makes this award very special for me is that usually I head up the engineering design team and the studio design team. So to be recognized for my studio work is relatively rare amongst mechanical engineers."
Gordon Murray's career will be celebrated during EyesOn Design's Vision Honored, a gala event at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac on Friday, June 14 ahead of the Father's Day car show at the Ford House. From Professor Murray, "This award is indeed an honour, especially when I read the list of truly talented winners from previous years."
